To prepare for weekly classes, students will watch on-demand videos to learn a segment of Buddhist wisdom, a meditation style of the week, and a segment on learning to guide others. Students attend 12 live discussion group classes, and also meet (during live class) in small “pods” to do practice teachings.
All classes happen virtually via Zoom. All times listed are in ET (American Eastern Time).

Curriculum
Whether you are taking this course for your own benefit or to share the life-changing benefits of meditation with others, the curriculum is carefully designed to give you a deeper understanding of meditation. You’ll also learn not just the “what” but the brain science behind “why” and “how” meditation affects our brains and, in turn, our lives.
You’ll achieve a heightened sense of inner calm and peace — a balance that fortifies you against the ups and downs of life. After taking this course you’ll feel more even throughout the day. Centered. And you’ll begin to feel that the world is supporting you rather than out to get you. This is a crucial shift that affects everything in your life from your happiness with yourself to your relationships and your sense of inner calm.
Students will:
• Understand meditation from a neuroscience perspective,
learning about the impact of meditation on the brain and why it helps us live with more equanimity and happiness
• Find greater presence, balance, clarity, and expansiveness within yourself through committed personal meditation practice, with accountability
• Practice leading meditations and receive constructive feedback
• Develop the confidence, vocabulary, and presence to successfully lead others in meditation and help them to build a consistent meditation practice
Topics and meditations covered include:
Topics
5 Precepts (Sila) + Living with Virtue - learn why the Buddhist path begins with ethics and how this can be a source of deep happiness within ourselves.
Four Noble Truths - how to escape the suffering of daily life and enjoy freedom.
Ending the Cycle of Suffering and Samsara (to enter nirvana, the world without suffering) - actions we can take to avoid the cycle of suffering many people live with.
Eight-fold Path + Focus on “Right Action” - we have the power to choose “right actions” each moment and to live morally sound lives and train our minds .. so we can be happier and more free.
5 Hindrances - these can get in the way of our meditations, and if we know them, we can avoid them!
Insight - we’ll learn a meditation known to provide great insights & bring us closer to our intuition.
History of Buddhism - the Buddha was an actual man who lived in what is now called Nepal - we’ll learn his story and the three main types of Buddhism now practiced and taught around the world.
Three Universal Truths + Karma - Buddhists say our actions lead to more success or failure (we’ll learn how to maximize what cause success!); we’ll also learn the benefits of impermanence.
